New England Food Policy Report GET THE REPORT → In New England, demand for local, sustainably produced food is high. However, our region currently imports the majority of the food it consumes. This is due in part to the fact that many of our laws do not support local food production, creating policy barriers at the local, state, and federal levels that affect our region’s capacity to grow and consume more of our own food; process and distribute more of our own meat, poultry, and seafood; and support our signature farmland and those who farm it. Today, we are taking a great step toward supporting the growth of New England’s local food system. In partnership with American Farmland Trust (AFT) and the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (NESAWG), we are releasing an extensive, groundbreaking report analyzing policies to strengthen our region’s food system.

The new report, New England Food Policy: Building a Sustainable Food System, is a call to action. It provides a critical policy focus to existing work across the region to build a food system in New England that is healthy, economically vibrant, just, environmentally sustainable, and resilient. Fortunately, according to the recent 2012 Census of Agriculture, in every New England state the number of farms and the amount of land in farming increased from 2007 to 2012. What’s more, in some of these states, the number of young farmers grew as well. Throughout New England, many new and veteran farmers alike are working to feed our region while responsibly stewarding our land. But they need sound policies that supports their efforts — policies that can allow New England to capitalize on the opportunity to build a sustainable food system. New Englanders deserve healthy food that supports our communities and environment. Just wanted to let you all know that we got our retail licence this past Tuesday! With that being said, we will now be introducing some new products in the store.

Today our friends at The Root Seller in Nottingham brought by some delicious Blue Gold potatoes! They're delicious!

We are open!!!

We currently have our farm raised meats, raw honey, bee pollen, maple syrup and gluten free granola.

We are also scouting for more local products to sell in our store. If anyone knows a farmer or friend that makes or grows local products we'd love to meet and talk with you! We are hoping to stick with a healthier more organic base of products, but are considering conventional products as well. Please email, call or stop by!

Also we are curious which local foods and farms you already buy from to give us an idea of what products to carry. We'd love to make your commute shorter and help you still eat that great farm fresh food!

Deerfield Winter Market meets

The Deerfield Winter Market begins Sunday, November 17 at the Old Town Hall, 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

Seacoast Eat Local announces their winter markets.

Join us along with old friends and family to feast your eyes on delicious root vegetables, crisp leafy greens, meats, cheeses, milk, tea and beer, baked goods and canned foods. All from over 60 vendors throughout the season! While you are there, be entertained by local musicians and learn new cooking skills at our demos. Kids won't feel left out either, with a variety of fun activities to keep them engaged and learning about local foods and farming. Don't forget to help keep fresh local food on the tables of those in need as well. We will have food donation tables at our markets helping a variety of food pantries throughout the season.
