Candia Vineyard’s Ice Storm wine Wins Double Gold!

Candia, NH – June 10, 2009   -  Amongst an international field of 1,600 wines, the famous “Ice Storm” from Candia Vineyards impressed the judges  with a unanimous vote, earning it a Double Gold at the International Eastern Wine Competition.   Candia Vineyards was Northern New England's only winery to earn this high honor!

The competition is one of the oldest and largest in the US, attracting the finest wines for blind judging by  professional wine judges with backgrounds in wine marketing, enology, viticulture, and the food & beverage industry. 

Candia Vineyards also produces an award-winning Noiret a rich dry red wine with intense pepper and mocha overtones.  The vineyard is the first to grow this grape in NH and is believed to have the world’s most-awarded of this variety.  The vineyard also produces several other "first in NH" wines.

Even in the rain

Even in the rain the market is a great place to be!

A growing market

The Northwood Farmers market continues to grow!
Last week the market welcomed a new vendor - the Kandy Kettle (fudge and lemonade).  They will be at the market every 2nd week.  This week - Thursday June 10th we will welcome a new baker to the NFM - Brindleview Farm Kitchen, come see what sweets they have to offer.   The following week (June 17th) will be the first week for local seafood - Eastman's Fish Market will join us.  Stop by to have them explain how a CSF (community supported fishery) works.   There are plenty of salad greens, early vegetables and local strawberries available. The farmers market is open every Thrusday (rain or shine) 3:00- 6:30pm at corner of rte 4, 202/9 & 43.  Buy local, eat local.

Reminder - no pets at the market

Just a quick reminder, our insurance regulations do not allow dogs or other pets at the market.  We love them, but where food is served and sold is not the place for our furry friends.

Strawberry rhubarb pie, anyone?  And so much else.  Lots of vendors, lots of customers, music, sunshine, just the way to start a season of local products and working together to make the community better and stronger.  See you next week!

These goodies were from the Warren Farm in Barrington.  They joined us last fall for the indoor markets, and are back for the summer.  They also had asparagus!

OPENING DAY COMING UP!

Mark May 27th on your calendars – that’s the date of the first Northwood Farmers Market of the 2010 season at the NFM site up on the corner of Routes 4, 9, and 202 in Northwood. We’ve added new vendors to the Market this year, building on last year’s enthusiastic consumer response to locally-produced food. One of the new vendors will be Eastman’s Community Supported Fishery, the first CSF in the state and modeled after Community Supported Agriculture. They’ll be joining the traditional cast of local farmers selling plants, flowers, vegetables, baked goods, maple syrup, honey, free-range poultry and beef, cheese and other dairy products, and so much more.

Think globally, buy locally, and become a real locavore by shopping at the Northwood Farmers Market every Thursday from 3 to 6:30 starting on May 27 and going until October, when we’ll move the Market indoors. See you at the NFM!

Patrons of the arts needed!

The Northwood Farmers Market loves to showcase local entertainers, musicians, storytellers and the like. While we certainly encourage “busking,” the practice of laying out an instrument case, hat or other way of collecting donations, we also would very much like to be able to pay a small stipend to those who bring so much pleasure to our customers and vendors. However, in order to keep the cost to our vendors as low as possible, we run on a very lean budget.

A good friend of the market, who wishes to remain anonymous, has offered to match any donations from other friends of the market up to $250. Any funds collected would pay small stipends to entertainers willing to spend a Thursday afternoon this summer making our market even more fun.
